The US Department of Energy announced today that it will try to create a Forum of producers of “zero” emissions. The Forum aims to achieve net-zero emissions on a global scale through the “development of long-term strategies”.
Canada, Norway, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia will join the United States in these efforts. It should be noted that these five countries account for 40% of the world’s total oil and gas production.
The forum will focus on “methane reduction, improving circular access to the carbon economy, development and implementation of clean energy and carbon storage technologies, diversification in the calculation of hydrocarbon revenues and other measures according to the national conditions of each country”, are states in a statement of the US Department of Energy.
