The United States achieved the goal it set at the beginning of the US military mission in Afghanistan in 2001. The goal was to deal with those who attacked us on September 11, 2001, said National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan in response to a question about whether Washington believed it had won in Afghanistan.

Following the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, the United States intends to leave only the embassy contingent in the country.

“The US military presence in Afghanistan will only take place to protect the embassy,” he said. “Washington will try to maintain its diplomatic mission, which has its security features,” Sullivan said.
